It all started in my grandmother's living room. My Family gathered together during the holidays and it would be Showtime at the Apollo, front and center. I would watch as my mother, aunts and uncles dance and sing from sun up to sundown, while waiting for my grandmother to get finished with dinner. I mimicked every grunt, moan and squint to get on their singing levels. I must say it paid off. By the age of five, I had my very own record player made by Fisher Price as a Christmas gift and there has been no turning back.
